Description
1. Popularly, the basing of action or judgement by an individual on knowledge of which he feels certain because it was acquired in his own experience, and often because it is common to others' experiences.
2. Originally, the sense common to the five senses whose function was apperceptive or interpretive. As an internal sixth sense it also received and interpreted (it was considered) inner impressions and states. Consequently it was confused with intuitive knowledge or a related parapyschological faculty. To claim, as a basis for action of judgement, the exercise of this common sixth sense, is to claim certainty based on some inherent wisdom or divine reason.
