2. In demographics, the count of people in any geographical area or any classification, for example, age, sex, marital status, ethnic origin, etc.
3. In ecology and genetics, over a period of time, the total number of individuals of a single species, or the number in a particular space. This applies to microorganisms, insects, plants and animals, as well as man.
