Whatever his origin, an intellectual tends to develop a comprehensive conceptual map and an inclusive and exclusive set of terms for thinking and talking about policy and society. In principle, however, his concepts can be treated as abstract equivalencies of other maps, and his terms can be expanded, contracted, or supplemented by others.
